NFL Camps opened this week in preparation for a 16 game season. At the same time, the NFL is trying to increase the number of games from 16 to 18. This appears to be a cash grab and not a way to improve the game.
1. The Jets got into the playoffs last year because the last two teams they played had no benefit in playing hard. What will happen if the Colts are 12-1 and the second best team is 8-7. That would mean the last five games are possibly meaningless.
2. Players go down. The concession to increase the roster is not to provide more jobs...it is to provide more fodder. Another reason for teams not to play hard if the division is clinched.
3. Records become meaningless. I know that football is not a numbers league like baseball, but all records will be broken.
4. Does anyone want two more Bills, Lions, or Raiders games?
5. Will this mean more games in London? (or other places around the world? How about the Lions returning to the Colliseum?)
I don't want 18 games if the quality is reduced.
